So this museum, the Museum of Broken Relationships, consists of a bunch of items donated by everyday people that represent various failed relationships. A pretty neat idea when you really think about. According the the BBC:
The Museum of Broken Relationships asks people in the cities it visits to donate mementos of everything from short flings to painful divorces.
I think the reason such a thing is so appealing is that sometimes nothing is more captivating than a glimpse into the lives of others. I firmly believe that there is a little voyeur in us all. Nothing sexual or dirty about it mind you, but a simple desire to understand others by a glimpse inside their personal struggles.
This museum has everything from a wedding dress to an axe used by one individual to chop up her lover’s furniture:
“The more her room filled up with chopped up furniture, the more I started to feel better. Two weeks after she was kicked out she came to take the furniture. It was neatly arranged into small heaps and fragments of wood.”
See, now that is awesome! If I were going to donate anything it would probably be this damn stuffed cat I still have. Why? Well, that is a long damn story, perhaps for another time…
